Masterplan and Accommodation Strategy

Central School of Speech and Drama

The practice has worked very closely with the School since 1989 in the preparation of an Estate Strategy to suit the School's educational mission and to make the most economic and functional use of their land and buildings. This has resulted in a long-term development plan which is in the process of being realised in a series of phased building and refurbishment operations carefully planned to facilitate the School's continuous occupation of the site. We have assisted the School in successful bids for the public funding which has made the development possible.

The components of the Masterplan completed so far have included a major extension accommodating two studio theatres, workshops and teaching spaces, a new library and administration building, the creation of cafeterias and bars and the complete refurbishment of the School's annex building at St. Pancras which included teaching spaces, exhibition gallery, studios and experimental theatre. Future phases will comprise a new public cafe, theatre and exhibition building fronting on to a new public piazza and a mixed use building accommodating further School functions, commerical facilities and apartments.
