Victoria Memorial Hall, Calcutta, India

In 2003, Cullum and Nightingale were invited by the Calcutta Tercentenary Trust to carry out a Feasibility Study into the possible new ancillary facilities for the Victoria Memorial (perhaps Calcutta's most famous and prominent building - a museum attracting some 1.2 million visitors per year).

Following on from the Feasibility Study we were asked to prepare Sketch Design proposals for a new building (library, museum and visitor facilities and exhibition space) in the grounds of the Memorial. In February 2004 the Chairman and Trustees to the Victoria Memorial gave their approval in principle to the project. This is now being considered by the Indian state and national authorities.

Conceived as a low-lying series of garden pavilions behind a colonnaded walkway, the building would be partially concealed by existing trees and would complement the architecture of the main Hall and its fine gardens.
